 National Schools’ Sports Week

National Schools’ Sports Week is a truly amazing spectacle of sport; it is an opportunity for our students to challenge themselves to take part in a different sport and a week which celebrates participation as well as competition.

Every child is asked to make an effort to contribute and get fully involved in PE & School Sport and given opportunity to try activities not usually offered on a school’s curriculum. In recent years we have offered; Zumba, Beach Volleyball, Tchouk Ball, Dodge Ball, Climbing, Archery, Wheelchair Basketball and Ultimate Frisbee. This year over 300 students participated in our Mini World Cup and all of our students challenged themselves to participate in five different sports over the week!

The week coincides with our School Games Day (Sports Day), in which all students are expected to participate, whether that be by competing, officiating or becoming a reporter or photographer for the day! Parents are warmly welcome to come along and support their child’s House in the afternoon events.

NSSW is also the culmination of our Inter House Competition, which runs through the year with Brunel, Cavell, Hepworth and Redgrave competing against each other each term in a variety of traditional school sports.

At Emerson Park Academy the ideal of each child taking part and enjoying taking part is our aim; NSSW gives our students opportunity to find a sport they enjoy and gives them an understanding of the benefits that being active can bring.
