Havering Young Ambassadors

We are extremely fortunate, here at Emerson Park Academy, to house all six of Havering’s Young Ambassadors. Young Ambassadors are the most outstanding sports leaders in schools and are selected due to their sporting talent and, more importantly, their exceptional commitment and ability as Young Leaders or volunteers; they are based in Year 10.

The Young Ambassador programme seeks to develop Young Leaders and volunteers further by providing them with the responsibility of being an ambassador for PE and school sport. These students provide a vital link between the students, teachers and School Games Organisers.

A Young Ambassador's role is to:

  • increase participation and healthy lifestyles in their school
  • promote the positive values of sport in and through sport
  • be a role model in advocating PE and school sport
  • be the young people's voice on PE and school sport in their schools and communities

Our Havering Young Ambassadors assist in the organisation and delivery of various primary festivals and competitions in the borough as well as at national events; this allows them to work towards achieving their Gold Young Ambassador award. Young Ambassadors is a recognised programme when applying for colleges and universities; it demonstrates a student’s ability to plan, organise and lead events. It also highlights their maturity and communication skills, teamwork and time management skills.

“It’s an unbelievable experience, it gives me an opportunity to be more confident, be more independent and work on my communication skills. I can try new things like being a Young Official, which is brilliant.”

“Sports Ambassadors gives me the opportunity to help young people and it gives me the chance to build on my confidence and will help me in the future.”
