Sport in the community

Emerson Park is fortunate to be situated in a thriving borough of sporting prowess.  We have built strong relationships with several local clubs, some of which are operating on the school grounds after school hours.  This has enabled our athletes to take their interests even further beyond curriculum PE and extra-curricular PE clubs and adopt these sports as a hobby outside of school.

Emerson Park Academy hosts the following clubs on school grounds after school:

Emerson Eagles Badminton Club (Weekdays) after school in the school sports hall.  Emerson Eagles is a very successful organisation that has been established for over ten years.  The luxury of having this club on our doorstep has meant that the highly qualified coaches can easily push any students that are affiliated with the club onto a higher level of performance.  We are also fortunate to receive the head coach, Amanda Austin one day a week for extra-curricular PE.

As a West Ham Community Borough Hub School, West Ham United Foundation Soccer Schools are held on the astro turf during weekday evenings (this runs exclusively as an extra-curricular PE activity but also as an external soccer school).

Jaybee Gymnastics Club – In the lime light of a successful 2012 Olympics, Jaybee Gymnastics Club re-established itself here on the grounds of Emerson Park Academy, running sessions on weekdays after school in our Gymnasium.  Once again, Emerson Park benefits from the club being located on school grounds and Jaybee provide a fully comprehensive training programme to all attendees, pushing them onto a performance level where they eventually take part in local and national competitions and displays.  Several of our students have chosen to take their gymnastic prowess even further by joining the club.

Emerson Park Academy has club links with the following local clubs:

Upminster RFC & Romford and Gidea Park RFC – These clubs act as a strong pathway for many of our rugby players and we are fortunate to receive coaching from these clubs at various times of the year.  They also host the annual rugby borough finals.

Upminster Hockey Club – The luxury of having an astro turf has enabled us to establish a strong link with Upminster Hockey Club and England Hockey, they have provided funding to run training sessions for our Key Stage 3 students once a week.  We are in the process of strengthening this link by forming mixed teams and creating a fixture list for the students that take an interest outside of curriculum PE.

Essex Leopards Basketball Club - Our 5 year relationship with this well established basketball team has allowed many of our students to adopt a sport that has a very low uptake in southern England.  So many of our students now benefit from high quality coaching visits at Emerson Park Academy, and from the link that we have with the Brentwood based club who receive many of our young and aspiring basketballers.

Hornchurch Cricket Club – The profile of cricket in Havering schools isn’t as high as many would like it to be.  However, working alongside Hornchurch CC as a joint venture, Emerson Park has been successful in securing a new outdoor cricket square that is used by the club at weekends and the school on weekday afternoons.  This is a luxury that many schools do not have and we make best use of it with the eager cricketers that we receive from Hornchurch CC and other local cricket clubs.
