Emerson Park Academy - Mass Asymptomatic Testing

To facilitate the testing of more than 1,000 students, we are having to phase the return to school over four days commencing Monday 8th March. This means that certain year groups will have to remain at home and access lessons online, whilst others come into school to be tested.

Please look carefully at the information below which sets out which days and times students in each year group should come to school to be tested.  Once they have been tested they are to return home immediately.

Testing Programme:

Monday 8th March   –   Year 10

Tuesday 9th March   –   Year 7

Wednesday 10th March   –    Year 11

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday students must arrive at the following times based on their surname and year.

 A – M –  Please arrive for 9.30am

 N – Z  –  Please arrive no earlier than 12.15pm

On Thursday 11th March we are hoping to be able to test two year groups in one day.  To ensure that Year 9 can still access the various options assemblies/activities on the day, Thursday will be organised as follows:

Thursday 11th March  –   Year 8    (ONLY)

A – M – Please arrive for 9am (early opening)

N – Z –   Please arrive no earlier than 10.45am

Thursday 11th March  –  Year 9    (ONLY)

 A – M – Please arrive for 1pm

N – Z –   Please arrive no earlier than 2pm (late close)

We will aim to keep the ‘Test Centre’ open on Thursday 11th March, until we have processed everyone in Year 9 that has consented.

Example - if your child is in Year 7, they come to school on Tuesday 9th March to undertake the test and then go home immediately.  Test results for each student will be sent electronically to parents and/or carers via email or text message later that day. The student then returns to school as normal from Wednesday 10th March to follow their normal timetabled lessons if they have tested negative.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who contacted the school and indicated a preference via the consent forms.

The cut off deadline to receive consent forms was Wednesday 3rd March.  This is to ensure just enough time to prepare all the data that needs to be uploaded to the NHS Track and Trace system ahead of the mass testing starting.

If you have missed this deadline but would like your child to take part, please return your consent form to the school office ASAP and I will include them in our second and third testing schedules.  Please do not send your child in to be tested if you missed this deadline as we will not be able to accommodate them and I will have to turn them away.

If you have chosen not to consent then your child should return to school on the first day the entire year group returns e.g. Year 10s all return on Tuesday 9th March, Year 7s all return on Wednesday 10th March etc…

Please understand that the testing process is logistically very complex and I anticipate that there will be some hitches and delays in the early days and there is also potential for inclement weather disruption too. My thanks in advance to you and our students for your patience.

Please accept my apologies if you have children in different year groups as we will not be able to test them all on the same day.  This is due to how we have set up our Track and Trace programme and also ensures we keep our year group bubbles separate.

Whole school testing will end on Friday 19th March and all our students will move on to ‘Home Testing’. I will share information about this separately in due course.

Finally, I would like to conclude by thanking the numerous parents who have contacted the school and offered to volunteer over the next two weeks to help get all our students back into school.

Kind regards

Mr Hope

Assistant Head Teacher

Please note:

  • Students are not required to wear school uniform on their test day.  Full school uniform is required when year groups return to school.
  • Work will continue to be set on Satchel One for the year group being tested, but there will be no ‘LIVE’ Zoom lessons for them on that day.
