Emerson Park Academy

Endeavour, Persevere, Achieve

More Able

At Emerson Park Academy we understand the importance of ensuring that every pupil aspires to reach their full potential, especially those that are likely to exceed in all subject areas. The Academy’s aims emphasises that teachers will meet the needs of students of all abilities and that they will motivate students in order for them to become independent learners.

The development of More Able provision at Emerson Park is a valuable contribution to the delivery of the Academy’s vision which states that we strive to produce confident, tolerant, socially responsible global citizens and we aim to engage with every student and encourage them to achieve their full potential. We ensure that all teachers make full use of pupils’ achievement when they plan and teach their lessons so that everyone is challenged fully, especially higher achieving pupils. More Able pupils should be inquisitive, thoughtful and independently proactive and we aim to provide an environment in which they can flourish.

The term ‘MABLE’ is reserved for those students who achieve, or have the ability to achieve, significantly above average across the National Curriculum subjects at school. This identification is made when a pupil has a mean CAT score of 116+ and/or an exceptional KS2 level. Parents will be sent a letter to inform them of their son/daughter’s inclusion and updated of any projects or workshops that will extend and enrich their child’s progress in the respective learning area.

It is of vital importance that our More Able  pupils are stretched and challenged within the classroom and it is our priority that a culture of achievement and success is celebrated. Our focus is on the level of questioning and challenge that takes place in all classrooms, developing our knowledge and training, to provide the lessons which offer individual and personal objectives.
