Public Speaking
On Monday 16th of December, Year 8 pupils competed in the Emerson Park Academy Have Your Say Public Speaking Contest.
After studying the effectiveness of famous speeches, pupils wrote and performed their own speeches in class. Each English teacher put forward the best four public speakers from their group to compete in the finals.
The finalists delivered their three minute speeches on a wide range of subjects from bullying and racism to global warming. The participants put forward their ideas through clever use of rhetorical devices, voice, humour and pace. The English Faculty were very impressed with the high level of skill shown by all of the finalists.
A special well done to the winners: Fletcher S. (A Band) and Jack B. (B Band).
And to the runners up: Taranveer C. and Nathaniel C. (A Band), and Max H. and Callum B. (B Band).
