Year 10 classes embarked on a trip to London following our recent Whitechapel and crime and punishment learning. We travelled on a train into London.

We went on a tour through Whitechapel with our guide called Jeremy. He was funny and very knowledgeable. Later, we went to the clink museum to see an old prison, and it was crazy to see how people used to be treated. We couldn't believe it! Later, we went to the market for a little while before it was time for the main event, the London dungeons. 

The London Dungeon was great, and Mr Paterson was very scared (false!) but still had fun just like everyone else did. The staff and the students all very much enjoyed our trip and had a great day," said Jimi T, year 10.

"We walked around the streets of Whitechapel to learn about the murders of Jack the Ripper. We went to the itchy park and learnt about the conditions homeless people slept in the 1800s. We also saw the site of the peabody estate. 

After lunch, we went to the Clink prison museum. We were able to sit in the torture chair and see what a prison cell looked like. We saw what people would have to wear when doing hard labour, and we were able to sit in the pillory. 

The last stop was the London Dungeons. This was really fun. We learnt about different torture techniques, we were put on trial in a courtroom and learnt about witches, the plague and Jack the Ripper." Year 10 students 

The Year 8 boys rugby team took part in the Essex 7s at New Hall.

The boys topped their group following wins against Woodbridge and Eastbrook.

In the semi-final, they eased past Phillip Morant 25-10.

Then in the final, despite being 15-10 down at half-time, they ran in 4 unanswered tries in the second half to win 30-15 and became Essex 7s Bowl Champions after not losing a single game all day.

This is a huge achievement for these boys, and we congratulate them on this fantastic achievement.

Mr Reynolds nominated Lois for her remarkable achievements last year in swimming, which also included representing England at the World School Games in Slovakia. 

The great news is that Lois won. This has been a great personal achievement for her and something that will cap off her time at Emerson Park as she has been a great ambassador for the school.

This is the 2nd year in a row an Emerson Park pupil has won this award, as last year it was won by sprinting legend and now former pupil Joel A. 

JUNIOR SPORTS COMPETITOR-OF-THE-YEAR (Sponsored by West & Coe Funeral Directors) Presenting this award was Mr.Jeremy West MBE.

The winner was LOIS S: 2025 was an incredibly busy, productive and successful season for LOIS S – marked by milestones both in-and-out of the pool.  She qualified for the April 2025 National Championships – a key event for Olympic selection, covering both open and junior categories.  In the Winter and regional short course Championships, she performed well and maintained top rankings by delivering strong performances in both the 200 metres and 400 metres medley relays.  Hard work paid off with qualifying times for the National Winter Championships. She finished the season with a top 5 ranking in all her events.  In long course racing, she claimed titles in backstroke at County and Eastern Regional Championships and secured an English National Championship place, breaking club records along the way.  At British Nationals, she retained her ranking and earned selection for an elite Olympic Development Pathway Squad at Loughborough University.  She's most active, with participation in National Winter Short Course Championships and at an Inter-County team event in Sheffield. The biggest highlight was her England International selection for the International School Sport Federation World Schools Championships in Serbia.  There she adapted to unfamiliar conditions and rose to the occasion by delivering personal bests in nearly all her events and proudly bringing home a bronze medal from an international stage. A fantastic 200 metres personal best came in the British Championships when competing against Olympians. Many journeys face challenges and when her training pool was closed for 2 months due to repairs, she faced extra travelling and then training in pools with limited access due to overcrowding.  Her passion for the sport is inspiring.

This will be the fourth year that we have asked exhibitors to include their T-level offer at the event as it is still a relatively unknown qualification, and we have also invited exhibitors that offer Supported Internships too.  Supported Internships are a great opportunity to improve the life chances of SEN young people with an EHCP by supporting them into sustained, paid employment or an apprenticeship.

The event is being hosted at New City College, Construction & Engineering Campus, New Road, Rainham, RM13 8GP on Tuesday 10th February 2026, from 5.00pm until 7.30pm with last entry at 7.00pm.  All attendees will need to book their places via Eventbrite and tickets will be issued on a first come first-served basis. There are two timeslots to choose from and this will help to prevent overcrowding.

Attendees will be invited to visit stalls in order to access detailed information, advice and guidance about apprenticeships and the entry requirements for an apprenticeship programme and, in particular, what opportunities are available to them locally.

This year, we are also offering a 15‑minute presentation at the beginning of each time slot, (5.15pm & 6.30pm) providing basic information on Apprenticeships, T Levels and Supported Internships, along with guidance on how to make the most of the event. Spaces for these presentations are limited and will be allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis. A copy of the presentation will be circulated to all attendees after the event.

Online Parent Workshop – Supporting Wellbeing During the Festive Period

Date and time: Thursday 11^th December 5.30-6.30pm

This workshop is aimed at parents of both primary and secondary-aged children.

The festive period can be a time of excitement for children and young people but also has the potential to feel overwhelming and challenging for some.

The workshop will be discussing:

• Why children and young people might find this time of year challenging
• Strategies to support your child to cope with difficult feelings

You are invited to collect your certificates on Wednesday, 17th December, from 16:30–17:30 in the foyer.

If you are unable to attend, certificates can be collected from Reception from 18th December during normal school hours.

The school has, once again, achieved results that would place them above many national averages for the ninth year running. 

This outstanding achievement shows that academic success has now become a regular feature at this school.

The endeavour, perseverance and drive for academic excellence has reaped rich rewards for our school community.

We are also delighted that so many of our alumni achieved such high grades in their A Levels last week that they are now and taking their places at many top universities across the country.

These achievements fill every member of the Emerson Park Academy community with a huge sense of pride and, as Head Teacher, I know how much they all deserve this success.

Parents, Carers, family members, teachers and friends have all played an integral role in these outcomes and should take great credit for their support.  This is a shining example of collaborative effort and each stakeholder should take credit.

We now look forward to the 2025-26 academic year with a strong track record to maintain.

We wish all of our pupils and alumni good luck in their endeavours and we know there will be some great stories yet to be written.  Well done to all and keep up the good work.
